Model Agency Best Practices Survey

During the June plenary, Administrative Conference staff provided a brief  presentation about a brand new Conference project called the Model Agency Initiative. The idea is to utilize all of the resources and expertise of the Conference to help agencies become model 21st century agencies driven by innovation and the adoption of best practices.

We believe the Conference is uniquely situated to gather and promote best administrative and operational practices government wide.

The project has three primary components:

1. ACUS will develop a dedicated, interactive website to showcase ideas from the government. It will highlight ACUS recommendations, workshops and symposia; it will provide a forum for the public and private sectors to collaborate in identifying and developing solutions; and it will serve as a central location for government best practices.

2. ACUS will survey agencies, asking them to identify an area of strength they believe could serve as a model for other government agencies, as well as programs or practices at other agencies that they wish they could replicate in their own agency. An annual award for the most innovative agency best practice will be given at each December plenary session. The award will be named after the late Walter Gellhorn—administrative law scholar, and member of the Conference’s Council from its beginning in 1968 until his death in 1995.

3. ACUS will conduct in-depth studies of selected new or newly restructured agencies to identify lessons learned on important issues such as staffing, regulatory process, technology and collaboration.

Briefly describe the Agency's Best Practice.

Our goal is to promote best practices government-wide. This project can be highly successful, but it cannot work without your input. The submissions will be judged by a panel of esteemed professionals who are experts in the area of government reform and procedure. Moreover, even if your agency does not win the award, most best practice submissions will be featured on our website as success stories, and can be renominated in subsequent years.

Please submit the requested information on best practices by October 31, 2011. Questions and/or submissions may be directed to info@acus.gov.
